Network Maintenance - Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 04:00-05:00 GMT/UTC
EDIT: If you're reading this, our maintenance is OVER! The problem was not found on our equipment, which means we'll have to work with our ISP to fix this small problem -- which also means another maintenance window in the future -- but at least we have eliminated our side. Thank you everyone, and a special shout out to rekoil for giving me a great suggestion AND also the opportunity to feel like I've just called in to a local radio station. Have a great day, night or afternoon wherever you may be. --- Hi everyone, sorry for the late notice but I'm going to have to do some testing on 1 of our 4 internet circuits TONIGHT; Friday night or Saturday morning depending on which time zone you're in. Most of us shouldn't notice any impact, though there may be some slowness or lag when I switch traffic on to our other ISP circuits and then another hit when I stop the tests. If a page won't load or times out, try hitting refresh 1 or 2 times and it should load then. If it doesn't work at all... trust me, I'll be typing really really really fast to try to undo whatever I just did. Hopefully you'll have some Halloween candy (if you're in the USA and celebrate that kind of thing) nearby to take away the bitterness of a small site outage. :( Here's the handy-dandy Website That I Always Use to get a feel for when the maintenance will start in your area. Our site traffic historically dips on Friday afternoons until Saturday morning which is why we tend to pick this time for maintenance work. ( tech details )status.livejournal.org will, of course be updated before and after the maintenance window. Or else marta will get mad at me. :D bt |

WATCH V
So I took a semi-impromptu trip to CT last weekend, leaving at 6:45 am Thursday morning and getting back at 11 pm Sunday night, to go visit Catherine (didn't really tell anyone in my dept. about it, except for Maya, because I needed her to take notes for me, and take over my beer czar responsibilities). Had a fantastic time with her and got to meet a lot of her friends which was good times, and yeah, was definitely a very good weekend, was a little sad to have to return back to the grind of being a grad student. Had to give a kinda big presentation on the following Monday, so I was a little worried about it, since I was spending the weekend in CT, but it went very well, so happy about that. I think our mass spec will be fixed soon, so I might actually have some data from all the work I've been doing since... well... I got here, which would be great since I have to present in December, because trying to talk about my research without any data to support it might be awkward. I don't know if anyone else has seen the ads for the V series reimagining, but man am I pumped for it! I was such a HUGE V fan when I was really young, and I've already heard some really good reviews about the pilot, AND, it's from the same people who did The 4400, which was an awesome show (was really sad to see it get cancelled), so yeah, so pumped. I just hope people like it so that it continues, but yes, it premieres on ABC, Tuesday, 8/7 pm, go watch it! Nisei lounge on Thursday, how can one not be excited for that! Current Mood: pumped |

I like this... it felt good to write... i don't know if its too much though... Role of the Researcher Through the qualitative research process, I have an interpretative role in this research. I have collected information that I feel is complete and valid, but I am a biased researcher. As a theatre artist and educator, I believe that theatre has immense power and possibility to help LGBTQ youth. I believe that LGBTQ youth need to experience theatre as a way to escape the harsh society that allows hate, fear, and restriction towards other human because of whom they love. I believe in the transformative power of theatre and its ability to create safe spaces, community, and help locate and explore identities denied to people of any community. I also believe that social and political action is needed to change the world in which we live. I believe that LGBTQ youth and the whole LGBTQ community deserve equal rights, protections, and most importantly safety to be who they are and want to be. I am vested in this effort as my future goals include providing such opportunities to LGBTQ youth through my professional, social, political, and artistic work. As the researcher I will provide clear evidence of my personal bias and will reveal any information or data that runs contradictory to the themes of the research. |

Let The Sun Shine In
The second episode of the fourth season of The Venture Bros. airs tonight on adultswim. Entitled "Handsome Ransom," it was the first script we wrote for this season--back when we still thought we'd be doing 13 episodes straight through and starting production immediately after pre-production of season 3 finished. ...Which also means it was written when Michael Jackson was still alive... Too soon? Anyway, those who were confused or annoyed by last week's convoluted premiere can relax...this one's a pretty straight forward comic ransom romp. It picks up a little while after the events of the premiere, and it's got The Monarch in it. So you won't have to think too hard and you can watch it all regular and just enjoy it and stuff. Assuming the network actually shows both halves of it. We Love You, JP Kevin "Batman" Conroy guest stars in this episode, and he was a total joy to work with. A real pro who was game for whatever we threw at him and, if anything, almost got a little too into the role. Current Music: Cheap And Cheerful -- The Kills |
